How to Use Your Card of the Day

A daily card takes a minute, and it works best as a small, regular habit:

  1. Draw in the morning. Hold a simple question in mind, such as “What do I need to know about today?” or “What would help me most today?”
  2. Read the advice, not only the name. The card’s advice line is the part to carry with you. Pick one thing it suggests that you could actually do today.
  3. Look back in the evening. Where did the card show up? A conversation, a feeling, a decision? Often the connection only becomes clear later.
  4. Write it down. A line in a notebook or on your phone is enough. After a few weeks you will see which cards and suits keep coming back, and you will know the deck far better.

A card of the day is a prompt for reflection, not a forecast. It won’t tell you exactly what will happen, but it can give the day a focus.

What Your Card Says About Your Day

The kind of card you draw already says something about where the day’s energy lies:

  • Major Arcana: a bigger theme than the day itself. Notice how today fits into what is changing in your life more widely.
  • Wands: energy, drive and action. A day to start, create or push a project forward.
  • Cups: feelings and relationships. Pay attention to how you and the people around you feel.
  • Swords: thoughts, decisions and conversations. A day to think clearly and say what you mean, and to watch out for worry and conflict.
  • Pentacles: work, money, your body and practical tasks. Get something concrete done.
  • Court cards (Pages, Knights, Queens and Kings): a person you may meet, or a way of acting to try today. See tarot court cards explained.
  • Aces: a fresh start in that suit’s area of life.

For more on the numbers and suits, see the Minor Arcana guide.

If Your Card Is Reversed

About one card in three is drawn reversed. A reversed daily card is not a bad omen. It usually points to energy that is blocked, delayed or turned inwards: something to notice and work with today, rather than something to fear.

When your card is reversed, the reading shows the start of its reversed meaning. Read the card’s full guide for the rest, including what it asks of you.

Drawing the Same Card Again

The deck is shuffled fresh every day, so repeats happen by chance, but a card that keeps returning is still worth a second look. Ask what its theme has to do with what is going on for you. See what it means when you keep pulling the same tarot card.

Tarot Card of the Day: Frequently Asked Questions

Is the tarot card of the day free?

Yes. You can draw your card every day with no sign-up.

Why can I only draw one card a day?

A daily card works best when you give one card your full attention, rather than drawing until you get one you like. Your card stays on the page for the rest of the day, so you can come back to it.

Should I draw my card in the morning or the evening?

Most people draw in the morning to set a focus for the day. Drawing in the evening works too, as a way to reflect on what happened. Choose one and stick with it.

What if I don’t like my card?

A difficult card is not a prediction that your day will go wrong. It often points to something to handle with care, such as a tricky conversation or a need for rest. Read its advice and see what you can do with it.

Can I use my own deck?

Of course. Shuffle, draw one card and look it up here. The tarot card meanings page lists all 78 cards.
